Does the thought of lace knitting both terrify and intrigue you? If so, we have the class for you!
We are thrilled to have knitter and designer Sheila O’Keefe here at Stash to guide you through your first lace project!
“I learned to knit from my mom as a child, but didn’t stick with it. In 1995 I quit my career in electronics and moved from Texas to Oregon to attend graduate school at Oregon State University. That first dark and rainy winter I realized I needed an indoor hobby (besides TV and chocolate). Over the winter holiday break, I checked out some books from the local library, bought some needles and yarn, and re-taught myself how to knit. I’ve been addicted to yarn ever since.” -Sheila O’Keefe
The “Intro to Lace” class will take place on 3 Saturdays, July 7, 14, and 28 from 10:30-12:30. Cost is $65. During the class students will learn the basics of lace knitting including how to read a lace chart.
Skill level: Advanced beginner – Students must be very comfortable knitting and purling and ready not to panic if you drop a stitch or need to rip back
Materials: US 6 24-inch or longer circular needle with fairly pointy tip (or needle size to get desired drape), 400 yards fingering-weight yarn (picking an appropriate yarn and needle will be covered in the first session). 15% off materials purchased in store.
Isn’t this shawl gorgeous? Sheila designed the shawl herself and the pattern is included with the class. She used Knitted Wit Fingering for the class sample. It looks stunning in the geometric lace pattern!
